Electrical prices move with the scope more than with the town name. A breaker and a whole house rewire should not share an average. The table keeps the guides separate so you can see the disagreement.

Sources are Angi, This Old House, and HomeGuide for panels. Chargers, generators, and rewiring are Angi project reports, because that is the 2026 guide we could read closely. Where we do not have a second publisher, we say so.

What moves the price

Panel only, or the whole service

HomeGuide's narrow 100 to 200 amp band and This Old House's wider band are both in print. The difference is often the meter, the mast, and the cable from the pole or the pedestal. Ask which of those is in the price.

Distance

A charger or a new circuit across a Spring Hill house costs more than the same circuit on a shared wall. Angi's new wiring band of $500 to $1,500 is the national hint. Feet of cable are the local version.

What the generator actually is

Angi's $1,512 floor and its $18,000 whole house machine are not the same product. A transfer switch, a pad, and gas piping are easy to leave out of a verbal price. Put them back in.

Plaster and old cable

Angi's rewire average mixes small jobs with large ones. A Columbia house with knob and tube and plaster will not land on $1,567. Get a whole house number and a partial number.

The utility's schedule

A meter pull waits on Columbia Power and Water, Duck River Electric, Middle Tennessee Electric, or Mount Pleasant Power. The wait is not usually a line item. It is why the job is not 'tomorrow' just because the panel is in the truck.

Lighting and ceiling fans are not in the table. We did not find a published range we were willing to treat as a Columbia price. Ask for the box, the switch, and any new circuit as separate lines.

Permits are real and local. The state electrical permit page and the issuing agent list are the references. We are not printing a fee that changes.

You pay the electrician if you hire them. A contractor may pay this site for referrals. That is not a surcharge we add to the repair. This sample has no contractor signed on.

  • Angi, cost to upgrade an electrical panel. Puts a panel upgrade at $1,200 to $2,000. Also lists a breaker replacement at $100 to $250, a subpanel at $400 to $1,750, and a meter box at $200 to $800.
  • Angi, how an electrical panel upgrade is done. Puts the average cost to reach 200 amps at $1,600, with a range from $800 to more than $4,000 when the job grows.
  • This Old House, cost to upgrade an electrical panel. Most homeowners pay $1,300 to $3,000 to move to 200 amp service. The wider range on the page is $800 to $4,000. Panel plus installation for 200 amps is listed at $1,300 to $3,000.
  • HomeGuide, cost to replace an electrical panel. Lists an upgrade from 100 to 200 amps at $1,300 to $1,600, and $1,800 to $2,500 when a new service panel is required.
  • Angi, EV charger installation cost, 2026. Average install $967, with most projects from $554 to $1,380. Extra panel work $800 to $2,000. New wiring $500 to $1,500. Permits often $100 to $200. Figures come from Angi project reports, not from Maury County bids.
  • Angi, whole house generator cost, 2026. Reports an average installation near $5,157, with most projects from $1,512 to $8,803. The same guide lists whole house units in the 22 to 48 kW class at $5,000 to $18,000, standby installation labor and setup averaging about $4,520, a transfer switch near $1,200, and permits around $50 to $200. The low end includes smaller equipment. It is not a quote for a whole house standby in Columbia.
  • Angi, cost to rewire a house, 2026. Reports an average of $1,567, with most projects from $603 to $2,596, tied to a typical 2,500 square foot house in their customer data. That mix includes smaller wiring jobs. It is a weak budget for opening plaster and replacing knob and tube.

Questions

Why is one column blank on some rows?

Because we only cite a guide we read. Filling the blank with a lookalike number would make the table look more certain than it is.

Are Tennessee prices lower than these national bands?

Often labor is lower than in a coastal city. Access, plaster, and a utility mast can erase that. Use the band to prepare, then compare two written scopes.

Does a $25,000 license rule set the price?

No. It sets when the state requires a contractor license before someone bids the work. Your job can be honest and licensed at a much smaller price, or it can cross the line. Check the license lookup either way.

Can you send three electricians to bid?

No. The live version of this site sends the request to one electrician. You can still get another bid on your own. We are not a marketplace of five calls.
